Little Moments, Big Magic!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida has been providing one-to-one mentoring services to youth throughout Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Brevard, & Lake Counties since 1975. We currently serve children in 4 types of mentoring programs:
  • Community-Based Mentoring
Children from the ages of 6-14 are matched with adult volunteers in a one-to-one relationship. The pair spend time together sharing experiences throughout the community. Volunteers (Big Brothers/Big Sisters) are fully screened and assessed to ensure the best possible match for each individual child (Little Brother/Little Sister). A match is made after a thorough interview process with the Big Brother/Big Sister, Little Brother/Little Sister and the Little's parent. Once matched, the pair spend time together at least twice a month for a minimum of one year. They spend time building their relationship while receiving professional support and guidance from our professional staff. The pair enjoy time together doing daily activities, participating in Agency-sponsored match activities, attending local events, visiting the park, the library, and other fun places.....the possibilities are as endless as their imaginations!

  • School & Site-Based Mentoring
Youth ages 6-14, in need of academic support, are matched in a one-to-one mentoring relationship with carefully screened volunteers. The pair meet weekly at a school or partner site, for approximately one hour, throughout the academic year. They spend half of their time together working on a plan set to improve the Little's academic performance. The remaining time is dedicated to developing social skills, obtaining emotional support, and having fun! Just like matches in the Community-based program, Bigs & Littles matched in the School & Site-based program receive support and guidance from our professional staff.

  • Big Couples Program
A Big Couple program provides a unique opportunity for married couples. The program is very similar to our traditional Community-based program except that a married couple is matched in a two-to-one relationship with a Little Brother. The match participates in activities throughout the community, and they continue to receive the professional support and guidance of our staff. The difference is that a Big Couple has a bit more flexibility with their time commitment to their Little Brother. If one spouse is particularly busy one week, the other can hang with the Little individually - this benefits the Little Brother by ensuring that his "special" time with his Big Brother/Sister is not interrupted. The Little benefits further from adding two new caring people into his life, seeing firsthand how two adults interact in a healthy, loving relationship. The Big Couple program is perfect for any married couple, but particularly for the younger married couples or the "empty nesters" with grown children.

  • MCOP - Mentoring Children of PROMISE
MCOP - Mentoring Children of PROMISE is a specialized component of our Community-based program. It is especially designed to serve children ages 6-17 who live or go to school in Orange or Lake Counties. Children participating in this program have a mother or father who is incarcerated in a state or federal prison. These children face a daunting statistic - through no fault of their own - they are 70% more likely to be incarcerated than graduate from high school. WE CAN CHANGE THIS STATISTIC! Just as in our Community-based program, a match is made after a thorough interview process with the Big Brother/Big Sister, Little Brother/Little Sister and the Little's parent or legal guardian. Once matched, the pair spend time together at least twice a month for a minimum of one year. They spend time building their relationship while receiving professional support and guidance from our professional staff. If you know a child whose parent is incarcerated, and can benefit from a positive role model, please contact Percy Snyder at 407-478-2996 or percy@bbbscfl.org.
